Hello!
My name is Kat, I’m 26 and will be the written reporter for GOLD Rwanda – so I’m behind these blog posts (hope you’re enjoying the updates so far!) I currently live in sunny Shropshire and am an orthopaedic specialist Physiotherapist.

I have been in Girlguiding since the age of 7 and have never left! I am an asisstant leader to 24 fantastically enthusiastic Brownies in Shrewsbury and I love it. In addition to this I am also the county Senior Section Coordinator, a Queen’s Guide, I sit on the National Council representing Girlguiding Midlands, and assist with residential trips for the Brownie unit in Worcester where I grew up.

I am fortunate enough to have done lots of exciting things with Girlguiding resulting in some unforgettable memories! There is something though that absolutely stands out…. I was part of a trio of Senior Section members to organise the Midland Region camp ‘Carnival Fever’ for the Senior Section Spectacular in 2016. It was a 2 year project which I have so many happy memories from – our unforgettable and crazy silent disco, fireworks to ‘Reach’ by S Club 7, a carnival procession, watching Team GB win their women’s hockey gold medal at the Rio Olympics with the Chief Commissioner and Chief Guide, as well as gaining two life-long best friends!

GOLD is like nothing I have ever done before and I’m excited to meet lots of people whilst teaching them new things, learning about another guiding organisation and travelling outside of Europe for the very first time! I’m sure that my time in Rwanda on project will be brilliant and the source of many more amazing memories to think about for years to come!
I always struggle to think of my life outside of Guiding and work, especially when someone says – ‘think of a random fact’ or ‘tell me something interesting about you’. So my ‘random fact’ is that I have volunteered at both the 2012 Paralympic Games in London and also at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 and watched the dress rehearsal for the Olympic Games (it was INCREDIBLE!!)
As with the other team posts that you have seen, we are letting you know our favourite sweets – just in case you fancy sending some with us for the journey?! I love all things sour and my favourite would have to be sour Skittles – tangy then sweet but super tasty all in one.
Keep an eye out for the rest of the team – only 2 more members to meet!
Kat
