Happy and Smiley People!

This morning started with PANCAKES! We had a lot of flour, baking powder and sugar left over from the cake and Hannah had a fantastic idea to make some pancakes with it. We were so excited and they tasted just as good as we hoped. Topped with a selection of fruit, honey, peanut butter and nutella (but not all at once)! It was a perfect start to the morning.

After breakfast we prepped our training for the day and wandered down to the AGR to meet the nursery children. We were greeted with smiling, shouting, waving and overall very happy children! They are all aged 2-5 and attend the nursery before moving on to a local primary school.

There were 120 children at our training so for ease we split them into two groups. We introduced ourselves and they practiced saying our names along with more waving at each of us in turn! The aim of the session was to play games, sing songs and have fun – we certainly did that. Both groups played duck, duck, goose first and loved chasing each other around the circle.

The groups then sang some songs, played with the parachute and then did ‘under-over’ games with our inflatable balls.

We went back home for lunch – leftover curry and potato bake. Nice change from sandwiches for once this week. We enjoyed looking at the pictures of the morning session before going back to AGR to train the ladies at the Umuhoza project.

The Umuhoza project is for young women aged 15-25 who have had to leave education before being able to complete school. They come to the AGR to learn various different skills to be able to find employment and support their families. We were shown through their classroom which was full of sewing machines ready for them to use after our session.

The focus of the training was on women’s rights and it was great to be able to discuss these with the young women. They were very good at sharing their ideas with us and had clear ideas of what their rights are.

Towards the end of the session we could hear a rain storm starting. The ladies returned to their classroom and we decided to go outside. It had been so humid in the day that the rain was really welcomed. We decided that it would be a great idea to dance in the rain to cool down. It was bliss!

We spent the evening going shopping and stocking up with things that we needed before lots of travelling today. Take a look at what we got up to today shortly!
