Top Tips for Packing a Bag for a Long Haul Flight!

So, as you can imagine, losing our rucksacks from the hold of the plane wasn’t the ideal start to our trip! We have come up with the following top tip list for what to carry in your hand luggage to have all bases covered. This is especially useful if you are going on a GOLD project this year or potentially in the future!

1. Pack a spare pair of underwear (don’t be like Kat who forgot – soap and a sink are wonderful things!)

2. Have a pair of pyjama’s ready (some of us got pretty friendly on the first night!)

3. Mosquito net as an extra precaution.

4. Toothbrush and toothpaste are definitely necessary to stay fresh.

5. Duct tape for mosquito nets.

6. Tea towels if self-catering – washing up can be pretty difficult.

7. Suncream

8. DEET to prevent any nasty critters biting you.

9. Headphones so that you can chill following the stress of losing a bag!

10. A full change of clothes – wearing the same t-shirt 3 days in a row isn’t always great fun.

11. Deodorant so that you can smell as nice as possible!

12. Pack of cards to keep you entertained.

13. Snacks – especially important when travelling to a country you haven’t been to before and you don’t know when you will be able to make it to a shop. Great to have a home comfort at the ready.

14. Malaria tablets – you can never be too certain.

15. First aid kit with everything you could need to save from worrying about lack of supplies.

Luckily, we had a few of these things covered and between us we managed. The hotel were also able to help us with a few additional extras. It’s always best to be safe rather than sorry with everything – double check before you leave on your trip!
