It’s been a while since a blog post has been written to update you all on our GOLD Rwanda adventures so far. We have all been very very busy over recent weeks beavering away on various tasks – it’s time to let you know what we have been up to!
Three weeks ago we were in the midst of our 2nd briefing near London during the wind and rain bought to us by storm Hannah! We all arrived safe and sound but unfortunately Sophie was unable to join us in person. Alice managed to hook her laptop to a phone hotspot (notable Wi-Fi shortages when we needed them), which meant that we were able to keep Sophie in the loop throughout!
During briefing we developed our skills in relation to our specific roles during the GOLD cycle, learnt about the structure of guiding worldwide, had our first go at running a training session as well as attending trainings based on youth participation and the training of senior volunteers.
Of course, as I am sure you will have gathered from our previous blog post about first briefing, there was an evening entertainment which included some fantastic fancy dress! Our theme this time around was…. DISNEY! I think it is safe to say that all of the teams were pretty excited for this. We had chosen the theme of 101 Dalmatians with each of us as a puppy (with our own unique nametag) and Alice leading us as Cruella De Vil. You can see in the photo below that we even managed to get Sophie on facetime with her very own set of ears!

Each GOLD team was tasked with running an activity for the other teams get involved with – it could be anything! We decided on a simple relay race which involved rolling an egg along the floor with your nose, just like a little puppy. There was a lot of laughter and collisions… as well as a few cracked eggs. Luckily these had been boiled secretively earlier in the day – a task which should have been easy, but made significantly harder by a tricky hob which only lit on about the twelfth attempt!!!

In other news, our badges have arrived! It’s so nice to have them and be able to show them to people alongside out challenge pack too. Remember – if you would like one, just give a member of the team a shout!
Our 3rd conference call was also at the beginning of the week. We’ve managed to finalise our kit, discuss our 3rd briefing in the middle of June and Alice is in the process of finalising our itinerary – all very very exciting!
We will keep you posted over the next couple of months before we travel to project…… only 69 days to go!
